Friday 11-12-2009 (Club Grading)
Congratulations
to Claire Godkin on promotion to 4th Kyu on Friday the 11th of December
2009. Claire prepared every aspect of her grade very well indeed
and it showed in her strong performance. Well done Claire.
Saturday 21-11-2009 (Seminar with GM Tommy Jordan and Ken Keating)
Saturday the 21st of November 2009 saw Ballinteer Kenpo Karate
Club hosting a self defence seminar with Grand Master Tommy Jordan and Ken Keating. The
seminar was split into two stages. The kids were on from 10:00am to 11:30 am
and all had a great time during the morning covering different aspects of self
defence relative to the age group with Tommy presenting certificates to the
children afterwards.
The adults were on from 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm. The
seminar was supported by the following clubs. Ballinteer Kenpo, East Coast
Martial Arts, Rathgar Kenpo, Wicklow kenpo,
Santry Kenpo and Santry traditional Kenpo.
The group was split into two mat areas operating
simultaneously with Tommy Jordan and Ken Keating changing groups every 30
minutes. Areas covered by Tommy and Ken were Self Defence Techniques against
multiple situations , weapons attacks, ground work, weapons use and defence,
attack awareness and response , freestyle techniques. For pictures of the

Sunday 19-10-2008 (Seminar with GM Tommy Jordan)
Ballinteer
Kenpo Karate Club hosted a seminar with Grand Master Tommy Jordan for
juniors and seniors. The juniors were put through their paces in the
morning covering Forms, Defensive Techniques and Drills. Everyone
thoroughly enjoyed the morning and all children were presented with
their certificates directly after the seminar.
The senior seminar ran for the afternoon with G.M. Jordan splitting the seminar into 4 simultaneous groups
-Basic/Advanced Defensive Techniques -Freestyle Sparring Techniques. -Freestyle Weapons Sparring/Defence. -Traditional Forms -Weapons Forms (Bo Staff and Sai)
The
seniors covered a lot of ground on the day with all achieving their
individual desired goals and commenting on the intensive but very
enjoyable day. Ballinteer will be hosting seminars in the future
with I.K.A. Senior Instructors covering different aspects of our

Sunday 31-08-2008
Ballinteer
Kenpo Karate Club hosted its first interclub competition on 31/8/08.
Clubs represented were Ballinteer, Rathgar, East Coast Martial Arts,
Darndale and Santry. In total there were over 80 entrants between all
clubs and juniors and seniors represented their clubs well with honours
being shared around the individual clubs fairly evenly. On the day the
host club Ballinteer Kenpo Karate achieved best overall club on
points narrowly ahead of the chasing clubs. I would like to thank Mr
Tommy Jordan Mr Peter Coyle Mr Dave Quinn Mr Tony Devine Mr Willie
O’Neill of Rathgar Kenpo Karate , Mr Martin Cousins Mr Michael Byrne of
East Coast Martial Arts, Mr Ken Bryan of Santry Kenpo Karate, Mr
Michael Burke of Darndale Kenpo Karate for their assistance and
support on the day. A special thanks to all the Ballinteer senior students for their assistance in the smooth running of the event. Click on to video section for some highlights of championship.

Congratulations
to Mr Martin Cousins on the successful launch of his book ''Making The
Grade'' Martial Arts Memoirs (Trafford Publishing). The book was
launched in The Sallynoggin Inn on 16/2/08. There was a great turn out

Promotions: Congratulations to Liam Hartnett and Nigel Sykes of Ballinteer on their recent promotion to 4th Kyu.
Ken Keating
successfully graded to 4th Dan on 30/11/07 in Rathgar Kenpo Karate
Club. The grade was judged by a panel of Mr Tommy Jordan, Mr Peter Coyle, Mr Dave Quinn, Mr Ken Bryan and Mr Martin Cousins.

to Michael Sykes who graded to Junior 3rd Kyu recently in Ballinteer
Kenpo Karate Club under panel of Mr Jordan,Mr Coyle,Mr Quinn and
instructor Ken Keating.
